Google is quietly reducing access to some of its newest AI features after being hit with unexpectedly high demand. The company recently launched Gemini 3 Pro and its image model called Nano Banana Pro. Both features became instantly popular, and Google is now tightening the limits for free users and even adjusting what paying customers can access.
When Gemini 3 Pro first became available, free users could send up to five prompts per day. This was the same limit that existed for the previous Gemini 2.5 Pro model. Free users could also use Nano Banana Pro to generate or edit up to three images per day. It was a small but useful amount for anyone who wanted to try the new model without paying.
Over the last few days, Google quietly changed these rules. Free users now get what the company calls basic access. Google has added a note saying that daily limits may change frequently. The company did not say whether the limits will increase or decrease, but the overall trend suggests a reduction.
Google has also set a strict limit for Nano Banana Pro. Free users can now create only two images per day. Google explained that image generation is in very high demand and that limits may shift based on server capacity. The company appears to be managing resources while keeping the system stable.
The pressure on Google’s servers is also affecting NotebookLM, the company’s AI tool for research and notes. On Tuesday, NotebookLM temporarily rolled back access to its new Infographics and Slide Deck features. Free users cannot access them at all for now, and even Pro users are facing new restrictions. Google said it is experiencing capacity problems and hopes to restore normal access as soon as possible.
Infographics and Slide Decks had just been introduced in the NotebookLM Studio tab. Infographics could turn research sources into visual summaries in different styles and layouts. Slide Decks helped users generate presentation slides or detailed reading decks.
Google has confirmed that the limits for Google AI Pro and Ultra plans inside the Gemini app remain unchanged.
This wave of adjustments shows how quickly AI usage is growing and how even a company as large as Google can find itself racing to keep up with demand.
