Shenzhen-based technology giant DJI, which is known globally for its aerial imaging products, is set to make its first foray into the smart home appliance market. The company has announced that it will unveil its first robot vacuum cleaner, Romo, on August 6, through a new teaser trailer. The launch is especially significant because it marks a big change in direction for the brand, with a potential disruptor in a market currently led by players like iRobot’s Roomba and Ecovacs.
DJI Romo: Launch details, expected features
DJI announced the upcoming robot vacuum cleaner through its official Weibo account, revealing a teaser poster with the product’s name and the slogan ‘Unmatched Power.’ The short video shows two versions of the Romo side-by-side, with a date and time: August 6, 8 PM (local time), suggesting a launch in two weeks. However, the company has not shared any information regarding the product on its international channels, suggesting a China-only launch for now.
According to Gizmochina, the Romo will have a mop-cleaning dock with integrated vacuuming and mopping capabilities. This dock will not only empty the dustbin but also clean and dry the mop pads, a feature increasingly standard in high-end robot vacuum models. Moreover, it will likely make use of DJI’s strength in object detection and LiDAR to navigate with precision.
Industry insiders also expect the Romo to come with two front-facing brushes, which could enhance edge cleaning and debris pickup efficiency. The design also hints at an automatic refill and self-cleaning system, similar to what’s seen in high-end models from brands like Ecovacs and Roborock.
