Tata Digital-owned online grocery platform BigBasket has forayed into enterprise Software-as-a-Service business with the launch of its supply- chain management platform BB Matrix on July 18, joining a list of startups offering B2B SaaS solutions to expand revenues.
BigBasket’s business-to-business software is designed to help customers to get real-time updates, track bottlenecks, and take data-backed decisions to build resilient supply chains.
"The offering is live, we are piloting it with a lot of customers and we have secured one paid customer. This is an all-in-one SaaS based supply-chain platform that offers complete visibility across the entire supply chain to enterprises, globally," BigBasket chief product and technology officer Rakshit Daga told Moneycontrol.
The firm is piloting its software solution with several players across ecommerce, omni-channel commerce and other customers.
“The SaaS based solution has made it possible to reduce transportation costs by nearly 50 percent, lower the lead time by around 60 percent, and ensure up to 100 percent supply-chain visibility with its cutting edge solutions,” Daga said a day ahead of the launch.
The launch comes amid a growing demand for supply-chain management (SCM) software globally. According to a recent Gartner report, global annual SCM software spend will reach $62 billion in 2028, up from $29 billion in 2023, with a CAGR of 16.3 percent.
“Even though BigBasket largely operates in the grocery delivery for now, the way we do a quick commerce or subscription customers and others within grocery itself varies, all nuances of the supply chain is different. We realised we need a SaaS solution to manage this and we though this will be helpful not just for BigBasket but across the industry,” Daga said.
BigBasket’s solution offers Warehouse Management System (WMS), Transport Management System (TMS), and Order Management System (OMS for enterprises.
Startups across sectors such as fintech and ecommerce are hitching on to SaaS product offerings to expand revenues. Razorpay and Cashfree have announced several SaaS products with generative AI features.
“Right now it is in a very initial phase and doesn’t impact BigBasket’s overall revenue, however, as it scales we do expect a good traction of revenue from this stream. The hope is that in 2-3 years, this vertical will be able to contribute meaningfully to BigBasket’s bottomline,” Daga said.
