In the last four years, Apple has tinkered with the size of the iPhone. In 2020, Apple introduced the iPhone 12 mini and followed it up next year with iPhone 13 mini. However, the small-sized iPhone didn’t find too many takers. Apple then went on the other side of the side spectrum and introduced iPhone 14 Plus. It is expected that in September 2024, iPhone 16 Plus will be a part of the iPhone lineup. However, the Plus model is expected to give to an ‘Air’ model.
According to a report by Bloomberg, the iPhone 17 lineup is anticipated to feature several models, including the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max. There could be a addition in the form of iPhone 17 Air. “The idea is to create an “Air” version of the iPhone of sorts, something that sits in between the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro,” notes the report by Bloomberg.
Rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will come with a 6.65-inch LTPO display, supporting ProMotion technology for a variable refresh rate up to 120Hz. This would be a notable upgrade, as ProMotion has been exclusive to Apple’s Pro devices until now. Additionally, the ‘Air’ model is likely to pack in similar features to the Pro models. Apple changed its strategy with iPhone 15 as it gave faster processors to the Pro models. It’s not known if that will be the case with the Air model as well.
There have been rumours about a slim iPhone doing the rounds for the last few months. As the name suggests, the design of the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be sleek and lightweight, aligning with the ‘Air’ branding that Apple has used for its other product lines, such as the MacBook Air and iPad Air.
