Apple announced its next operating system (OS) for iPhone, iOS 18 at the WWDC 2024 this week. This new update includes several high-profile features, that have been implemented in this latest update to iOS. However, this new update has also reignited the long-standing battle between Android and Apple enthusiasts, as to which OS has better features.
While there is a long list of features that Android can take inspiration from Apple, there are many key features that iOS 18 has included, that seem to be borrowed from the Android ecosystem. We look at the top five iOS features that are already available on Android.
5 iOS 18 features that make the iPhone look more like Android
1) Control Center customisations
Control Center has been an integral part of the iOS experience like the Notification panel on Android. It provides us with a quick toggle from the home or lock screen for adjusting various tools and settings. But, before iOS 18, it looked inferior to Android’s implementation.
However, with iOS 18, Apple has provided a far more customisable Control Center, similar to how it works on Android. You can adjust the layout in a better way and Apple has added new widgets and toggles to make the Control Center look exactly like you wish.
2) Home screen customisations
Apple has finally allowed the customisation of home icons and the option to freely arrange apps and widgets on their home screen, even off to the side with iOS 18. Further, like Android’s Material You theme, iOS users will now be able to use app icon tints, which compliments app icons to the colour scheme of your wallpaper.
3) App locking
Apple with the iOS 18 update is now offering App locking via Face ID, Touch ID, or passcode, allowing users to hide most apps in a secret folder. However, this feature has been available on Android smartphones for the past few years.
4) AI Photo Editing
We also got a feature similar to Google’s Magic Eraser with the iOS 18 update dubbed Clean Up. It lets you remove unwanted objects from photos while preserving the original quality and is likely to arrive on supported Apple smartphones this fall, and is a part of Apple Intelligence features.
5) Game Mode
Apple has also introduced its new game mode that completely blocks out the background activities and ensures you are immersed in your iPhone while gaming. It is similar to Android’s Game Mode feature, which was introduce with Android 12.
