Pakistan's Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem received a distinctive gift from his father-in-law, Muhammad Nawaz—a buffalo. This traditional and heartfelt present celebrates Nadeem's remarkable achievement in winning the javelin throw event at the Paris Olympics with a record-breaking throw of 92.97 metres.

Nawaz explained that gifting a buffalo is regarded as "very valuable" and "honourable" within their rural community. He, a resident of the village with four sons and three daughters, chose to give the buffalo to Arshad Nadeem in recognition of both the deep-rooted traditions of their community and Nadeem's strong connection to his rural background. Despite his international success, Nadeem continues to live with his parents and brothers in Khanewal, Punjab.

Nawaz’s daughter, Ayesha, is married to Nadeem, and the couple has two sons and a daughter. Nawaz reminisced about their lives six years ago, highlighting Nadeem's dedication to his sport despite limited resources. "Six years ago, when we decided to marry our daughter to Nadeem, he was doing small jobs and running errands but was extremely passionate about his sport," Nawaz told PTI. "He would constantly practice throwing the javelin at home and in the fields."

Nawaz expressed immense pride in Nadeem’s achievements, commending the athlete’s respectful and humble nature. He noted that two of Nadeem’s children have recently started attending the local primary school, while the youngest son is still very young.

The traditional gift from Nadeem’s father-in-law represents the pride and honour felt by his family and village. Muhammad Nawaz's gesture of gifting a buffalo reflects the deep respect and value ingrained in their culture, underscoring Nadeem’s strong ties to his roots. Nadeem's journey from a small village in Punjab to becoming an Olympic champion exemplifies his dedication and the unwavering support of his community.
