India's star athlete Neeraj Chopra on Wednesday qualified for the World Athletics Championships men's javelin final. He hurled the javelin 84.85m in his first attempt during the Group A qualifiers at the Japan National Stadium, Tokyo, thus earning him a berth in the finals, which will be played on Thursday.
The automatic qualification mark was 84.50m and Neeraj, who is the defending champion, hardly break any sweat to storm into the final.

Meanwhile, after a slow start, Germany's Julian Weber was the second participant to advance to the final with an attempt of 87.21m in his second throw. He had started the qualifiers with an attempt of 82.29m.
Polish Dawid Wegner also made it to the finals by hurling the javelin 85.67m in his final attempt. Wegner after completing his throw landed flat on the ground and his eyes were intact at the javelin as it sailed through the air. The attempt also saw him set his personal best record.
Sachin Yadav, the other Indian in fray, recorded 83.67m as his best attempt, which came in his second throw. Although he failed to earn a direct qualification but remains in contention as Group B qualifiers will undergo later in the evening.
