Rishabh Pant is known for his counter-attacking approach to score big runs and put the pressure on the opposition bowling attack. However, he was not in full flow during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 and in the fourth Test in Melbourne, he miscued a shot getting caught at third man. Sunil Gavaskar, on commentary that time, was left furious at the youngster as he called the Indian wicket-keeper's shot selection 'stupid' three times in anger. Months later, Pant is now seen mimicking Gavaskar's iconic commentary.

The video, which was an instant hit among the fans, was released by Goibibo, who has signed the gloveman as its new brand ambassador.

"Stupid, Stupid, STUPID! You've got two fielders there, and you still go for that. You missed the previous shot, and look where you've been caught. That is throwing away your wicket. You cannot say that is your natural game. I'm sorry. That is not your natural game. This is a stupid shot. This is letting your team down badly. You have to understand the situation as well." Gavaskar said during commentary on ABC Sport. Watch the video here...

During that time in the match, when Pant entered the field, India needed someone shoulder the responsibility as the team was miles away from Australia's first innings total but Pant failed to do the same.

Resuming proceedings from the overnight total of 164/5, Pant and Ravindra Jadeja added 27 runs before the wicketkeeper-batter gifted his wicket to the home side by playing a rash shot. Pant, who is not new to unconventional style of batting, was caught at deep third man by Nathan Lyon off Scott Boland's bowling. He lost his wicket while trying to scoop the ball pitched on the off-stump line towards fine leg. However, in the process of doing it the ball took a top edge and flew straight towards Lyon positioned at third-man.

The shot came a ball after Pant tried to do the same but failed to make any connection and was hit on the upper part of his body, close to the stomach.

The moment left many fuming as India required a more cautious approach by Pant but he chose to counterattack. While angry reactions were expected, batting legend Sunil Gavaskar absolutely lost his cool while commentating. He called Pant "stupid" and suggested that the wicketkeeper-batter should go into the Australian dressing room, rather than the Indian.

Focus on IPL

All the focus is now on Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Rishabh Pant will lead the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and former India cricketer Aakash Chopra has reckoned that the youngster needs to score heavy if he wants to make a comeback in the T20I setup of Team India.

"Rishabh Pant has a big opportunity. He is currently not a part of the T20 team. He is not even part of their scheme of things. People are surprised why such a strong player cannot get a consistent run in T20s. So, this is your season, sir. Come and score so many runs so that everyone is shaken," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
