Journalist trolled by Shubman Gill vows never to 'motivate' him

Shubman Gill appears as a calm custodian but he surely knows how to give it back when required. A similar scene was witnessed at the post-match press conference at Edgbaston, where Gill didn't hesitate to mock a BBC mediaperson by referring him as his "favourite journalist".

The episode between the two started with Joe Wilson, a BBC cricket journalist, pointing out India's poor record at the venue to Gill. Then the Indian captain showed grace but after leading India to their first-ever Test win at the venue, Gill decided to take a cheeky dig at Wilson.

"I can't see my favourite journalist. Where is he? I wanted to see him," Gill said when asked by an Indian journalist about his reaction to the same question.

Wilson was interviewed by RevSports days after the incident, and during the interaction he said he would never motivate Gill any further. "I won't say anything that motivates him," Wilson responded to a question if he would change his question before the third Test at Lord's. "I think he's a real gentleman. He answers every question with dignity and intelligence. He's leading his team pretty well in all departments, especially in the media."

Wilson after being handed a strong response by Gill both on and off the field, admitted that stats can sometimes be misleading considering the evolution of the sport and teams. "What the captain said was very sensible. If you look back at the 1970s and even the 1980s, there was a very different feel about the Indian Test team here. When they would come aboard and would never really have the expectation to win. Now they do have that. Maybe that was the statistics playing around with his or maybe that was a motivation because we've almost lost count of the records that Shubman himself broke. How to get Shubman out is now the number one question for the England coaches," he added.
