India star’s post for coach Abhishek Nayar goes viral after BCCI sacking

A BCCI insider claims that earlier in 2025, Abhishek Nayar and another assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, were being scrutinized since the BCCI wasn't pleased with the team's apparent "Kolkata Knight Riders touch" in the management.

Team India spinner Varun Chakravarthy posted on social media on behalf of senior national team assistant coach Abhishek Nayar after numerous media outlets reported that the BCCI had chosen to fire him. Following the team's dismal performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 and suspected dressing room leaks, sources also state that India's strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai and fielding coach T Dilip were fired. Chakravarthy shared an Instagram Story photo of himself and Nayar.

As their three-year contracts with the national team came to an end, fielding coach T Dilip and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai were also fired. India missed the chance to advance to the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 final at Lord's after suffering a heartbreaking 1-3 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.

According to sources, Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir expressed his displeasure with the players' performance in the fourth Test after the Melbourne Test was over.

Gambhir broke his silence over the reports during the news conference held prior to the commencement of the Sydney Test, stating that some candid remarks were made within the dressing room. He added his opinion, saying that "honesty" is crucial to the team's success.

"Those are just reports, that's not the truth and I don't think so I need to answer to any reports, to be honest. And there are some honest words. That's all I can say. And honesty is very important. Honesty is extremely important if you want to go on and achieve some great things," Gambhir told reporters.

A BCCI insider claims that earlier in 2025, Abhishek Nayar and another assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, were being scrutinized since the BCCI wasn't pleased with the team's apparent "Kolkata Knight Riders touch" in the management.

During the white-ball tour of Sri Lanka eight months ago, former Indian all-rounder Abhishek Nayar and former Netherlands cricketer Ryan Ten Doeschate joined Team India's support staff as assistant coaches. Alongside Gambhir, Nayar and Doeschate served as KKR's assistant coaches.

The Kolkata-based team defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the final to win the 2024 Indian Premier League under Gambhir's mentorship.

Earlier, the BCCI sent out a notice that if the national side's supporting staff stays with the team for three years, they will be removed from the service.

After serving with the Indian cricket team for three years, T Dilip and Soham Desai have been relieved of their responsibilities. T Dilip was a member of the Indian team that won the ICC Champions Trophy this year and the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024.
