Sky watchers are in for a celestial treat this March. The first solar eclipse of 2025 will take place on March 29. This event occurs when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, partially blocking sunlight and casting a shadow.
Eclipse Timings and Visibility
The solar eclipse will begin at 2:20 pm IST and end at 6:13 pm. The peak of the eclipse will occur at 4:17 pm, according to NASA. The event will be visible from parts of Asia, Africa, Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, and both Americas. However, people in India will not be able to witness it.
Unlike a lunar eclipse, direct viewing of a solar eclipse can be harmful. Special protective eyewear is needed to prevent eye damage. Looking at the Sun without protection can cause retinal burns and permanent vision loss.
Upcoming Eclipses in 2025
NASA has predicted two solar eclipses for 2025. The second one is expected on September 21. Additionally, there will be two lunar eclipses this year.
The first lunar eclipse will take place on March 14, coinciding with the Holi festival. It will begin at 9:29 am and end at 3:39 pm, lasting for an hour and four minutes. The peak of the eclipse will be at 12:29 pm. However, this event will not be visible from India.
This eclipse will be a “Blood Moon,” where the Earth’s shadow makes the Moon appear red. The second lunar eclipse of the year will occur on September 7.
Sky enthusiasts worldwide can look forward to these fascinating celestial events.
