Who is Sage Narada?

Sage Narada is a unique figure in Hindu mythology. Known as the divine messenger, Narada Muni is believed to travel freely across the three worlds – heaven (Akash), earth (Prithvi), and the netherworld (Patal) – spreading messages and news. According to the scriptures, he is the first journalist of the universe, constantly moving from one place to another, carrying important information. While his messages often spark dramatic events, they are always meant for the greater good.

Devotion to Lord Narayana

Narada Muni is a deeply devoted follower of Lord Narayana, a form of Lord Vishnu. He is known for constantly chanting the name of the Lord and playing the veena while singing praises. In Hindu beliefs, Lord Narayana represents truth and cosmic order, and Sage Narada is his loyal devotee, helping guide beings toward dharma (righteousness).

When is Narada Jayanti Celebrated?

Narada Jayanti is celebrated on Pratipada Tithi during the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon):

  • In North India, it falls in the Jyeshtha month as per the Purnimanta calendar.
  • In South India, it is observed in the Vaishakha month according to the Amanta calendar.

Though the names of the months differ in the two systems, Narada Jayanti falls on the same day in both regions.

This celebration usually takes place a day after Buddha Purnima. However, in rare cases when Pratipada Tithi is skipped, both festivals may fall on the same day.

Why Narada Jayanti is Important?

This day is not just about celebrating a sage's birth but also about recognising the value of truth, devotion, and the role of communication in spiritual progress. Narada Muni’s life reminds us that even when messages are difficult, they often lead to growth, transformation, and divine outcomes.

Narada Jayanti 2025 will be celebrated on May 13. It honours Sage Narada, the divine messenger and ardent devotee of Lord Narayana, known for his wisdom, devotion, and ability to move across the universe delivering cosmic truths. It is a day to remember the power of divine communication and devotion.
