Devshayani Ekadashi, also known as Ashadi Ekadashi, Padma Ekadashi, and Hari Shayani Ekadashi, will be observed on Sunday, July 6, 2025. This sacred day falls on the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadha, marking the beginning of Chaturmas, the four holy months in the Hindu calendar.
It is believed that on this day, Lord Vishnu goes into Yogic sleep (Yoga Nidra) in Ksheer Sagar and awakens after four months on Prabodhini Ekadashi. During this period, no auspicious or wedding ceremonies are conducted.
Why is Devshayani Ekadashi Important?
Devshayani Ekadashi holds great religious value for Vaishnavas and devotees of Lord Vishnu. It is observed right after the famous Jagannath Rath Yatra and sets the tone for Chaturmas—a time for spiritual reflection, devotion, and penance. Devotees observe strict Ekadashi Vrat (fast), offer prayers to Lord Vishnu, and chant Vishnu Sahasranama. The day signifies surrendering one’s mind and soul to Lord Vishnu’s protection during his divine slumber.
