Meghan Markle's dress selection for her trip to Nigeria has become controversial and subject to trolling on social media. The Duchess of Sussex chose a beige gown by Heidi Merrick, a California-based designer.

To provide context, the Royal Family's surname is Windsor. According to the designer's official website, the outfit is called Windsor Gown-Blush.

According to NDTV reports, the internet users were quick enough to troll her dress and made comments like “But they have been trying to erase the Windsors from their lives completely, but here comes Mrs Sussex wearing a dress called ‘Windsor', haha!!”

According to Fox News, the pair received an invitation for their first official visit from the country's Chief of Defence Staff.

But there was also a considerable section of netizens who supported Meghan Markle's decision. Many called her beautiful.

Buckingham Palace, located on the royal family's Windsor estate west of London, was once home to Prince Harry and his wife Meghan. In 2020, they chose to leave royal duties and relocate to the United States. The couple left the family home in June 2023.

Meanwhile, Meghan Markle's outfit selection comes shortly after a royal expert said that King Charles bestowed a "rare honour" on Ms Markle before the couple stepped aside from their duties.
