Four people were killed and 10 others wounded in a shooting at a family gathering in Northern California's Stockton on Saturday evening.
As per the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. at a banquet hall on the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue, where deputies found 14 victims. Four of them were confirmed dead.
Heather Brent, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said the victims included both children and adults. She added that early indications “suggest this may have been a targeted incident,” though detectives were still working to identify a possible motive.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office said, “Shortly before 6:00 p.m., our dispatch center received reports of a shooting near the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue in Stockton. We can confirm that approximately 14 individuals were struck by gunfire, and four victims have been confirmed deceased.”

As per the statement, the investigation is underway and information remains limited.
“Early indications suggest this may be a targeted incident, and investigators are exploring all possibilities. Detectives are actively working to determine the circumstances leading up to this tragedy,” the office said.
Authorities have not released information on the conditions of the wounded, but several were taken to hospitals.
The scene remains active as the investigation is underway. No information about suspects has been released.
Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee said the gathering was reportedly a birthday party, though officials only confirmed it as a “family gathering.” The banquet hall shares a parking lot with other businesses.
Authorities have urged anyone with information, video footage, or who may have witnessed any part of the shooting to contact the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office. “Community assistance is vital in helping us identify those responsible and bring justice to the victims and their loved ones,” the statement read.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has been briefed on the incident, his office informed on microblogging site X.
