In his inaugural address minutes after taking oath as the 47th US President, Donald Trump in no uncertain terms stated that America will use the liquid gold available in the country to make the nation energy surplus.
The 'Drill, baby, drill' slogan is one Trump campaigned on America becoming energy dominant and has promised to "drill, drill, drill" on Day One.
Trump on Monday said that he will declare a national energy emergency aimed at boosting US oil and gas production.
During his inauguration speech, Trump said, "The inflation crisis was caused by massive overspending and escalating energy prices, and that is why today I will also declare a national energy emergency. We will 'Drill, baby, drill!'" Trump said
It’s expected some of Monday's executive orders are intended to immediately encourage domestic oil and gas development. Karoline Leavitt, a spokeswoman for the Trump-Vance transition team, told Fox News it includes expediting permits for drilling and fracking. Canada is the top source of US oil imports.
Trump adds that he will declare a national energy emergency, and repeats his promise that his administration will ramp up drilling of oil and gas on US soil. "America will be a manufacturing nation once again," he says, adding that America sits on "the most oil and natural gas of any nation on earth, and we're going to use it," asserted Trump.
It is believed that promises made by Donald Trump to unleash the fracking industry played a vital role in his fight to win Pennsylvania, a key battleground state in the 2024 US election.
Despite the consequences the industry has had for the health of rural communities like Dimock in the north of the state, many residents continue to support the incoming president.
