Trump says he decided not to mention the people who have been jailed for their roles in the violent insurrection on Jan. 6, 2021, during his inaugural speech but is talking about them now during freewheeling remarks at the visitor center.

Trump started giving much more casual remarks, calling them “a younger, far more beautiful crowd” than the one he had just addressed in the Rotunda.

He said although he had initially seen how sunny it was and thought “we blew it” by holding the inauguration indoors, he called the sun “deceptive” for hiding how cold it reallly was and suggested the inauguration always be held inside.

“There was no suffering in that room. It was 72 degrees. It was perfect,” Trump said.

He asked the audience what they thought of his inaugural speech.

"How was the delivery, was it good?" he said, and they cheered.

Trump said he was going to say some more “controversial” things in his speech but those close to him convinced him not to. Those would have included the “J6 hostages” and Biden’s pardons of his family members, he said.

Donald Trump Inauguration Live: Trump will order rolling back protections for transgender people

Trump will sign an executive order declaring that the federal government would recognize only two genders: male and female, an incoming White House official said Monday.

The order undoes parts of one President Joe Biden signed on his first day in office four years ago. Trump’s order could restrict access to gender-affirming medical care and sports competitions for some transgender people.

The official said only two sexes will be recognized on passports and visas.

The move is not a surprise. Trump criticized transgender and nonbinary rights in his campaign, airing one ad more than 15,000 times that proclaimed, “Kamala is for them/them. President Trump is for you.”

Civil rights groups were preparing to challenge Trump’s restrictions in court before he took office.

“We are going to persevere, we’re going to continue in our work and we’re going to continue to protect trans rights throughout the country,” said Ash Orr, a spokesperson for Advocates for Trans Equality last week, anticipating such an order.

Trump 2.0: A maverick returns to world centre stage

In the weeks between his phenomenal electoral victory and swearing-in as the 47th President of the US, the world got a preview of what a second Donald Trump presidency will entail - both for itself and America.

Trump talked about making Canada the 51st state of the US, suggested taking control of Greenland and the Panama Canal, and floated the idea of changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America - all this before he was sworn in as American President on January 20. With Trump set to take the oath of office in the United States Capitol Rotunda on Monday, the world appears to be fastening its seat belt as it gets ready for four more years of a tumultuous and unpredictable Trump presidency.

Trump has gone from being a businessman, real estate tycoon and reality TV star to becoming the country's first former US President to be declared a convicted felon.

He reiterated his call for societies to welcome and integrate migrants.
  • This criticism aligns with the Pope’s longstanding stance on immigration. During the 2016 presidential campaign, Francis suggested that Trump’s anti-immigration views were “not Christian.” Recently, he appointed Cardinal Robert McElroy—who has described mass deportations as “incompatible with Catholic doctrine”—as the next Archbishop of Washington, DC, further underscoring the Vatican’s commitment to advocating for the rights of migrants.
