On October 4, the Kremlin accused Ukrainian authorities of "playing with fire" after Russian forces intercepted a Ukrainian drone near the Kursk nuclear plant, with reports of a fire occurring several miles away. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that this situation would be reported to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In response, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhiy Tykhyi denied any Ukrainian weapon fire aimed at or near the plant. Ukrainian forces had previously entered the Kursk region in a surprise cross-border incursion on August 6 and continue to maintain their presence despite ongoing Russian military efforts to expel them.
