Many X (formerly Twitter) users predicted that Zomato offering such a high paying job and later withdrawing was nothing more than a marketing gig.

Placement season at different Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) centres across the country are about to begin as students look to try and get into some of India's best companies, across various sectors.

A research intern at IIT Delhi, identified as Hrithik Talwar, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share how online delivery platform Zomato came to the campus, a few days before the start of the placement season in December, and offered a salary package of Rs 1.6 crore for the role of an Algorithms Engineer, but withdrew later.

The user shared a photo of the notification he got which gave an update of the application withdrawal and urged students to withdraw their application as Zomato had withdrawn the job owing to company constraints.

The post, which went viral, saw several retweets and comments from users. Some users wondered if the company had indeed offered such a high paying role while others guessed that it was a marketing gig by Zomato.

"Wasn't it supposed to be 16L and it got mistyped as 1.6 crore bruh," one user asked.

"1.6 crore package or 1.6 crore salary cause salary is a bit insane," another user wrote.

"I knew it was a marketing gig the moment I read the news. No way a company like Zomato can offer 1.6 crore to a fresher," a third user wrote.
