A Chinese woman, obsessed with Feng Shui, triggered multiple accidents after moving a traffic mirror in her Shanghai neighbourhood, the South China Morning Post reported. The mirror was originally placed to help drivers safely navigate a sharp turn, but the woman repeatedly repositioned it to improve the feng shui of her home.
According to the reports, the changes resulted in several accidents, prompting the property management company to reinstall the mirror multiple times. They launched an investigation and found that the woman who lives across from the mirrors kept altering its position, claiming it had a “demon-revealing” effect on her home.
The woman’s husband, Luo, told Shanghai TV that she called a feng shui master after suffering from bad luck and health issues, and the master was held responsible for her problems.
"We are no demons. We are not happy having a demon-revealing mirror pointing at us," he said.
He defended their action by claiming that no one really uses the mirror. However, neighbours disagreed, with one saying the drivers had to be extra cautious while making the turn.
The police warned the couple that their behaviour may constitute a criminal offence and they might be held responsible for any accidents caused by moving mirrors.
The police also warned them that they could be held responsible for traffic accidents caused by moving the mirrors.
The matter drew attention on local social media, with users saying they prioritised feng shui over public safety.
“They protected their own feng shui but compromised the safety of other people. I suppose what they did would not bring them harmony eventually,” one online observer said.
“It is foolish to blame everything on a mirror,” another added.
What is feng shui?
Feng shui, meaning “wind and water,” is a traditional Chinese practice that arranges spaces for harmony, and mirrors are considered an important element.
It is said that Feng shui mirrors facing the front door, windows, or bed can disturb household fortune, and any cracked mirrors should be replaced.
