A Taylor Swift fan planning to attend the pop sensation's Eras tour in New Orleans next year found herself entangled in a heated dispute with her Airbnb host. Ariel Stewart, who documented the ordeal on TikTok, revealed how her booking for the concert turned into a nightmare when the host attempted to triple the cost, leading to a contentious exchange.
Stewart's TikTok screenshots unveiled a conversation that began with the host, identified as Heather, admitting to a pricing error and insisting on collecting additional funds. The fan, dedicated to staying close to the concert venue, refused the sudden price hike, triggering a tense negotiation between the two parties.
Stewart's refusal to accept the new rate led to accusations from the host, who claimed that Airbnb's automated system was responsible for accepting the booking at the wrong price.
"I am sorry but the request will stay as it is because I know that the other location is definitely further and we did not want to be too far from the Superdome," Stewart wrote to the host in the screenshots.
"I decline changing the rate to a more expensive rate and decline to have my reservation moved to another location. After speaking with Airbnb, you can choose to cancel me but it will penalize you and block those dates from being booked in the future."
Amidst the exchange, Heather proposed alternative properties, which Stewart rejected due to their distance from the concert venue. Stewart, however, stood firm, asserting that the responsibility to cancel rested with the host and that Airbnb had advised her against doing so. The situation escalated as the host, feeling uncomfortable, accused Stewart of making threats and attempting to 'steal' from her.
As the dispute unfolded, Stewart's TikTok gained immense traction, drawing the attention of Swift's fanbase, the Swifties. Known for their internet sleuthing skills, the Swifties delved into the host's background, uncovering additional properties and personal details.
The fan's video served as a catalyst for an online investigation that exposed the host's full name, marital status, and even details about her employment.
Despite the host's attempts to justify her actions and encourage Stewart to cancel, the Taylor Swift fan stood her ground, emphasizing the lack of professionalism displayed by the host. The saga took an even darker turn when the host, in subsequent messages, labelled Stewart as 'dishonest' and threatened to contact her employer, turning the Airbnb experience into a "horrific nightmare."
Stewart said she was still waiting to hear back from Airbnb as per November 3.
