FIFA World Cup Odds Tracker | Brazil continue as favourites to win the trophy

With its 1-0 win against Switzerland on Monday, Brazil has retained itself as the favourite team among bookmakers tracked by Moneycontrol to win FIFA World Cup 2022. The team's average odds currently stand at 3.47.

In betting, odds refer to the potential returns for each dollar spent. For example, if a team's odds stand at 5.00, for every one dollar spent, there is a chance of getting five dollars back plus the original dollar. A team's odds go up as it gets more and more unlikely for them to win.

Brazil is the most successful team historically in the tournament, having won 5 cups. However, they haven't won a cup in the last 20 years. Seleção Canarinho's greatest advantage is their star-laden squad, that now looks more balanced than its previous iterations.

Meanwhile, France has become second in the list of top five countries favoured by bookmakers to win the World Cup, after beating Denmark 2-1 on Saturday and qualifying for the round of 16.

The country is now the first World Cup holder to survive the group stage with a game to spare since 2006.

In comparison, the average odds of Saudi Arabia, who beat Argentina in its first group match, stands at 401. The country lost its second match against Poland for two goals on Saturday. The triple-digit odds mean that bookmakers and analysts consider it unlikely for the team to take the trophy.

Meanwhile, Qatar, who has been eliminated from the tournament, made history as the first host nation to lose all three of its group stage matches.

Among the top five countries that bookmakers consider as having the highest chance of winning the World Cup, Brazil, France and England have already qualified for the round of 16. Argentina can almost guarantee their qualification if they beat Poland in their final group match. Whereas, for Spain, a win or draw in their final group match against Japan will suffice.
