A video from the recently concluded fourth Test between India and England at Old Trafford has sparked online debate after security officials confronted a spectator wearing a Pakistan cricket jersey, asked him to cover it, and he refused.

The clip, widely circulated on social media, was recorded by the man as he was seated among fans in the stands, dressed in a green Pakistan shirt. Stadium officials approached him, citing venue rules that reportedly prohibit attire representing non-participating teams. The fan refused to comply, stating, “I have paid (for)the ticket. No Indian crowd have complained about me. What is your issue?” and later challenged officials to “take me with force.”

While the situation remained peaceful, the exchange drew attention from nearby spectators, some of whom began filming. Additional security and local police were seen arriving at the scene.

The incident has divided opinion online. Critics labelled the move discriminatory and unnecessary, arguing that fans should be free to wear jerseys of their choice. Others defended the officials, pointing to venue guidelines. A spectator guide from Edgbaston earlier in the series had explicitly stated that only England and India-related flags, clothing, and banners were permitted. Lancashire’s policy for the Old Trafford Test remains unclear.

A spokesperson for Lancashire County Cricket Club confirmed awareness of the incident and said the club was “taking steps to understand the facts and context surrounding the matter fully.”

The controversy comes in the wake of the cancellation of a Legends match between India and Pakistan, reportedly due to off-field tensions.
