An Indian student of Purdue University in the US, who was missing since Sunday, was confirmed dead, news agency ANI reported, quoting the Tippecanoe County Coroner. The student was identified as Neel Acharya.

He was found dead on the Purdue University campus.

Before the news of his death emerged, his mother had shared a post on X on Monday, seeking information on him.

“Our son Neel Acharya is missing since yesterday Jan 28 (12:30 AM EST) He is studying in Purdue University in the US. He was last seen by the Uber driver who dropped him off in Purdue university,” Goury Acharya had posted on X, sharing of photo of her son.

“We are looking for any info on him. Please help us if you know anything.”

The Indian consulate in Chicago had responded to her post promising help, adding that they are in touch with the student's family and the university authorities.

Neel Acharya’s death comes around the same time that a 25-year-old Indian student was hammered to death by a homeless drug addict inside a shop in Georgia. Vivek Saini, who was from Haryana and had recently earned an MBA in the US, was killed allegedly by the man whom he had been helping for the past couple of days. The horrifying incident was caught on camera when the assailant struck Saini nearly 50 times on the head with a hammer.

The Indian consulate in Atlanta said they are assisinting in sending Saini's body to India. It is understood that the US authorities have arrested the accused and are investigating the case, the Indian Consulate said in a post on X on Monday.
