Former South Africa cricketer Jonty Rhodes was recently seen enjoying some of the local delicacies such as Mangalore bun and Mysore masala dosa, while on a visit to Bengaluru.
The 54-year-old, who tried out the foods upon an advice from a taxi driver in the city, later wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that he was grateful to have listened to him.
While many appreciated Rhodes for embracing the culture, one user thought that the person sitting in front of him was the taxi driver and criticised the legendary fielder for not ordering something for him and instead, opting to eat by himself.
Rhodes, clearly unamused by the reply, issued a clarification to the user by saying that person seated in front of him was not the taxi driver and said that the driver did not eat with him and only ordered the food for him.
I have been sitting on this reply for a couple of days. The gentleman at my table is a stranger to me, and my driver was taking the picture. He did not eat, just ordered for me some of his favourite food. He just had tea, and yes, I did pay for it #shameonyouhttps://t.co/JPXphe60I3— Jonty Rhodes (@JontyRhodes8) November 24, 2023
"Dear @JontyRhodes8 like any other country, India has a lot of amazing people and also a lot of idiots on Twitter. Don’t let them bother you," one user wrote.
"Sometimes it’s good to shut people up who are looking for their two seconds of fame," another user wrote.
"Dear @JontyRhodes8, Indians admire you, have always done so. There are always some idiots talking rubbish whom you can royally ignore," a third user wrote.
Rhodes enjoys tea, coffee at Murugan Cafe
The former South African cricketer did not stop at just eating Mangalore bun and Mysore masala dosa, but decided to explore Bengaluru further and on Friday, wrote on X (formerly Twitter) about drinking tea and coffee at Murugan Cafe and praised the person making the beverage for him.
Walking around Bangalore is pleasant before the rush. Great tea, and coffee at #MuruganCafe and awesome to see a ‘master’ at work. https://t.co/rq7DuTWe96pic.twitter.com/iPlSL1d5Af— Jonty Rhodes (@JontyRhodes8) November 24, 2023
In a Hindustan Times interview published in 2021, Rhodes had said that travelling to different parts of India had developed his taste buds as well as his spirituality.
