Mumbai metro bridge slab falls on vehicles in Mulund, one dead, netizens furious

Public anger spilled onto social media after a portion of an under-construction metro bridge collapsed in Mumbai’s Mulund area, killing one person and injuring three others. The incident, which occurred on LBS Road, has triggered sharp criticism of civic authorities, with users accusing them of negligence and corruption.

According to officials, a section of the parapet wall of the elevated metro corridor suddenly gave way and crashed onto an autorickshaw and a car passing below. The collapse led to the death of Ramdhan Yadav, while three others sustained injuries. Viral videos of the moment showing debris slamming onto vehicles quickly spread online, amplifying outrage.

People fume on social media

A Reddit user claimed they alerted authorities six days ago, only to be told not to “spread misinformation” and that everything was fine. Now, with lives affected, netizens ask why concerns of common people are repeatedly brushed aside.

Many users questioned how a “finished” section of the bridge could fail without any construction activity underway at the time. “This country is becoming unlivable,” one user wrote, alleging rampant corruption and calling the incident an example of institutional failure happening “in broad daylight”.

Others went further, linking the tragedy to governance and safety standards. One post argued that repeated infrastructure failures were pushing people to consider building lives outside India, citing better systems, accountability, and governance elsewhere. Another user claimed that authorities had ignored prior warnings on social media just days before the collapse, allegedly dismissing concerns as misinformation.

Some users also expressed disappointment over the lack of public reaction from celebrities, questioning why influential voices remained silent during moments of crisis. “Keep note of who stands with you when it matters,” one comment read.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s disaster control wing said the fallen parapet measured roughly 6×4 feet. Officials confirmed that Rajkumar Indrajeet Yadav, 45, is in critical condition in an intensive care unit, while Mahendra Pratap Yadav, 52, and Deepa Ruhiya, 40, are stable.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said it has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The probe will examine the cause of the collapse, construction quality, and whether safety and structural protocols were followed.
