A man in China is so devoted to his newly-married wife that he commutes 320km every day. Lin Shu spends at least six hours travelling between his home and his workplace. The 31-year-old works for the Chinese home appliance company Haier which is popular for being a good employer.
Sharing videos of what he calls “the longest commute distance” on social media, Lin said that he wakes up at 5 am and leaves his home in Weifang, Shandong province in eastern China at 5.20 am, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported. He reaches his office with just enough time for breakfast at the canteen before logging in at 9 am.
Detailing his journey, Lin said he rides an e-bike for 30 minutes to the station to catch a train at 6.15 am, arriving in Qingdao in the eastern part of Shandong at 7.46 am. He then takes a 15-minute underground subway trip to his office, the publication stated.
While social media users were shocked at the time he spent on the daily commute, Lin said it was all worth it “because of love”.
The man had been in a relationship for seven years before getting married in May. His wife is from Weifang and the couple bought a flat there so she could have a “sense of security”.
He used to live in a rented flat an hour away from work but he said he wanted to spend more time with his wife, and that it costs more for a flat in Qingdao.
The arrangement, Lin clarified, is temporary because his wife is looking for a job in Qingdao. The couple plans to settle there if and when she bags a job.
