This is one rumour that came true! After days of speculation over Deepika Padukone’s pregnancy, the actress and husband Ranveer Singh announced that they are going to become parents for the first time on their respective social media accounts. They posted identical posters adorned with pictures of baby booties, caps and rompers with the words ‘September 2024’ along with their names - the simple, elegant poster looks almost like a save the date invite. This will be the first child for the power couple who tied the knot in 2018.

Soon after they announced the good news, their celebrity friends and colleagues posted their greetings and best wishes for the couple. Shreya Ghoshal wrote, “Omg!!!! So excited, so happy for you both. Many many congratulations.” Kriti Sanon wrote, “Omg!!!! Congratulations you two!!!” while Vikrant Massey, who recently became a father to a baby boy messaged, “OMGGGGGGG!!!! Bahut bahut shubhkamnaen aap dono ko!!!” Others including Sonam Kapoor, Ayushmann Khurrana, Varun Dhawan, Bhumi Pednekar, Manish Malhotra and Masaba Gupta also sent their best wishes.

The rumours about the pregnancy started a few days ago when the Fighter actress appeared on stage to present the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA) for Best Film not in the English language to Jonathan Glazer for his movie The Zone of Interest. Deepika Padukone looked spectacular in a shimmery saree and custom jewellery by Sabyasachi, but soon there was some gossip about why she chose to wound the saree so tightly around her midriff without any glimpse of it. Later, she had posted an image from her hotel room lying on the bed with the quilt drawn up to her waist.

Reportedly, she had also said no to being a part of the third season of the popular international web series The White Lotus. She has also finished her other commitments including the South film Kalki 2898 and a cameo in Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again. Ranveer Singh, on his part, has Singham Again and Don 3 in the pipeline.

Ahead of her 38th birthday in January 2024, DP had told Vogue Singapore magazine in an interview: “Ranveer and I love children. We look forward to the day when we will start our own family.”

Bollywood celebrity baby names

Obviously, Ranveer and Deepika have some way to go before they name their firstborn. But they also have a rich (recent) history to draw on or rebel against, as they see fit. With celebrity baby names like Raha (Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor's daughter) and Akaay (Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli's son) setting off many a Google search for name meaning, and names like Vardaan (Vikrant Massey and Sheetal Thakur's newborn) being praised for being simple yet meaningful - they have a gamut to choose from. Whether they choose to surprise with an unusual name or please with something more expected, we expect Bollywood watchers and lovers to be equally delighted.
