Sunny Deol was visibly moved as he spoke about the emotional journey behind Border, a film that has remained close to his heart for decades.

At the audio launch of Border 2, the actor opened up about how his love for patriotic cinema began much earlier — as a young boy watching his father Dharmendra’s 1964 war classic Haqeeqat.

What followed was a rare, heartfelt moment that connected a father’s legacy to a son’s defining role.

Standing on stage, Sunny Deol spoke with warmth and gratitude, sharing how deeply Haqeeqat affected him as a child. The film’s portrayal of sacrifice and bravery stayed with him as he grew up, quietly shaping his dreams.

He revealed that once he became an actor, he knew he wanted to make a film that echoed the emotions his father’s work had once stirred in him.

Recalling that moment, Sunny Deol said, "Ab main aapke pariwaar ka hissa hee hu, jabse maine border ki hai, maine border ki thi jab mere papa ki film, haqeeqat dekhi thi, voh mujhe bhot pyaari lagi thi, tab main bhot chotta tha aur jab main actor bana toh maine teh kia kiya main bhi papa jaisa ek film karunga. JP Dutta saab ke saath maine baat ki aur hum dono ne decide kia ki hum yeh subject par film banayenge, jo bhot hee pyara hai, jo aap sab ke dillo main bassa hua hai…"

Sunny Deol went on to explain how Border grew far beyond a cinematic project. Over the years, he has met countless soldiers who told him that watching the film inspired them to join the Indian Army.

That realisation, he said, filled him with humility and pride, making him feel connected to the armed forces and their families in a deeply personal way.

The moment felt especially poignant as the makers unveiled Ghar Kab Aaoge, an emotional new track from Border 2.

The song reimagines the iconic Sandese Aate Hain from the 1997 original and brings together voices across generations — Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Roop Kumar Rathod, Vishal Mishra and Diljit Dosanjh. The song serves as a bridge between past and present, much like Sunny Deol’s own journey.
