The makers of Border 2 have tugged at heartstrings with the release of Ghar Kab Aaoge, a deeply emotional reimagining of the iconic song Sandese Aate Hai from the 1997 classic Border.
Released on Friday, the track brings together some of Bollywood’s most powerful voices — Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Roop Kumar Rathod, Vishal Mishra, and Diljit Dosanjh — creating a rendition that honours the original while speaking to a new generation of listeners.
During the audio launch event, Sonu Nigam sang the remake Ghar Kab Aaoge surrounded by BSF jawaans.
Composed by Mithoon with additional lyrics by Manoj Muntashir, the song preserves the essence of the original while weaving in fresh verses that capture the feelings of soldiers and their families today.
Rather than relying on grand visuals, the music focuses on the simple, quiet moments of longing and love, reminding audiences why the song became so iconic in the first place.
The 3-minute-10-second music video opens with Varun Dhawan as Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya, reading a letter from home. Overcome with emotion, he takes a moment to absorb the words before joining his fellow soldiers in a brief, joyous celebration.
Diljit Dosanjh, portraying Flying Officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, PVC, delivers his part with quiet dignity, while Sunny Deol, reprising his role as Lt Col Fateh Singh Kaler, reads a letter from his loved ones with poignant restraint. Ahan Shetty appears briefly as Lt Cdr Joseph Pius Alfred Noronha, rounding out a cast that leans on subtle performances and genuine emotion rather than spectacle.
Unlike the original Sandese Aate Hai, which ran for over ten minutes, Ghar Kab Aaoge has two versions. The full audio stretches to 10 minutes and 35 seconds for an immersive listening experience, while the video offers a shorter, emotionally concentrated edit.
Familiar lines from the 1997 version remain, preserving a sense of nostalgia, while the new lyrics help the song resonate with contemporary audiences.
The original track, sung by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod, featured Sunny Deol, Jackie Shroff, Suniel Shetty, and Akshaye Khanna, and became an anthem of patriotism and longing for millions.
Announced on June 13, 2024, to mark 27 years of Border, Border 2 promises to be one of 2026’s most significant war epics. Alongside Varun Dhawan, Sunny Deol, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty, the film features Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Medha Rana, and Anya Singh in key roles. Presented by T-Series and JP Dutta’s JP Films, and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, Border 2 is set for a theatrical release on January 23, 2026.
