Veteran Bollywood music composer Anu Malik has addressed recent reports around the recreated song “Ghar Kab Aaoge” from the highly anticipated film Border 2, stressing that he is proud of the collaboration and that credit for his contribution has already been given by producer Bhushan Kumar.
The track Ghar Kab Aaoge is the reimagined version of the iconic “Sandese Aate Hain” from the 1997 war drama Border. The original song, composed by Anu Malik with lyrics by Javed Akhtar and sung by Sonu Nigam and Roop Kumar Rathod, remains one of Bollywood’s most memorable patriotic tracks.
For Border 2, music director Mithoon has recreated the song with additional lyrics by Manoj Muntashir and new vocal performances, generating significant buzz ahead of the film’s release.
In recent days, some media reports suggested that Anu Malik was unhappy or uncredited for the new version in Border 2, which sparked debate in entertainment circles.
In response, Anu Malik took to Instagram Stories to clarify the situation, saying that Bhushan Kumar had already acknowledged him with “immense warmth and respect” for his role in creating the original melody.
He emphasised that the collaboration is one he is genuinely proud of and appreciates.
He said in his note, “I would like to clarify about the song ‘Ghar Kab Aaoge’ that Bhushan ji has already credited me with immense warmth and respect. This is a unique collaboration that I am genuinely proud of, and I have also shared my thoughts publicly across my social media platforms. Any reports suggesting otherwise are based on incorrect reporting. I stand by this collaboration with pride and gratitude.”
Anu Malik’s clarification aims to put to rest misunderstandings stemming from an earlier interview where he discussed the Sandese Aate Hain legacy and expressed his belief that original contributors should be properly recognised. That interview was interpreted by some outlets as a dispute over credit, although both Malik and co-lyricist Javed Akhtar were already named in the teaser for Ghar Kab Aaoge.
Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh, features an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty. The film, produced by T-Series and JP Dutta’s JP Films, is slated for a theatrical release on January 23, 2026, with the full song expected to drop ahead of the premiere.
