Matthew Perry died at his Los Angeles residence on October 28 after he was found in a unresponsive state in a hot tub with his cause of death determined to be owing to acute effects of ketamine and other contributing factors.

The 77th British Film Academy Awards (BAFTAs) witnessed a slice of controversy after fans criticised the officials for not including the name of Matthew Perry from the "In Memoriam" segment.

Fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disappointment at Perry's exclusion. The actor died at his Los Angeles residence on October 28 after he was found in a unresponsive state in a hot tub.

Perry's cause of death was later determined to be owing to acute effects of ketamine and other contributing factors.

BAFTA responded to a social media user, who wondered why Perry had been omitted from the ceremony and confirmed that he would be remembered at the TV awards in May.

Perry was included in the "In Memoriam" segment during the Emmy Awards held in January, with his photo shown even as Charlie Puth performed his 2015 song "See You Again", that transitioned into the Friends them song, "I'll Be There For You".
