Dhanush and Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth file for mutual divorce 2 years after separation: Report

Dhanush and Aishwaryaa Rajinikanth have officially filed for a mutual divorce at a Chennai court recently after being legally separated for two years. The couple have been married for 18 years, India Today reported.

The filmmaker couple, who have two sons Yatra and Linga, had announced their decision to separate in January 2022.

Dhanush had shared the development on social media while announcing their separation: “18 years of togetherness as friends, couple, as parents and well wishers to each other. The journey has been of growth, understanding, adjusting and adapting. Today we stand at a place where our paths separate. Aishwaryaa and I have decided to part ways as a couple and take time to understand us as individuals for the better. Please do Respect our decision and give us the needed privacy to deal with this. Om Namashivaaya! Spread love, D.”

Aishwaryaa, the daughter of celebrated actor Rajinikanth, shared the same message on Instagram with the caption, “No caption needed…only your understanding and your love necessary!”

The couple, who had gotten married in 2004, are often spotted together at their sons’ school events despite the separation.

While fans were heartbroken by the news, Dhanush’s father Kasthuri Raja had deemed Aishwaryaa and Dhanush’s separation as “a family quarrel". According to reports, Rajinikanth was badly affected by the couple's decision to separate. A source told Subhash K Jha, for Wion, that Rajinikanth ‘has taken his daughter’s break up very badly.’ It is also said that Rajinikanth wants Aishwaryaa to "mend her marriage" with Dhanush.

On the work front, Dhanush is preparing for his role as the legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja in an anticipated biopic directed by Arun Matheswaran.
