Senior IAS officer A B P Pandey was today appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), mandated to issue Aadhaar numbers to all citizens in the country.
Pandey, a 1984 batch IAS officer of Maharashtra cadre, is the first CEO of UIDAI, which was formed in January 2009. He is at present working as its Director General and Mission Director.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved appointment of Pandey as the CEO, UIDAI, with effect from July 12, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training said.
ACC also approved that the terms and conditions of the service, including remuneration, leave, provident fund and other terminal benefits of the CEO shall continue to be the same as those availed by the Director General, UIDAI, it said.
UIDAI issues Aadhaar, a 12-digit unique identification number that serves as a proof of identity and address anywhere in the country.
