New Air India CMD Rohit Nandan today held meetings with senior officials on his first visit to the Nariman Point office here and is likely to meet employees and union representatives sometime soon.
Nandan, who took over as Chairman and Managing Director on Friday, is understood to have discussed major issues concerning the airline's financial health with the top officials."Today was his very first day at the office here. He is still in the process of studying the files. He has met the top management and is in the process of taking stock of the situation," airline sources said. They said the new Air India chief was likely to meet a cross-section of employees and hold talks with various unions in the near future."He came for the flag hoisting ceremony yesterday. So far he has not met any union representative, but is expected to meet and talk to them because he seems to know about the poor morale of the staffers," said a union leader. The Indian Commercial Pilots' Association (ICPA), which spearheaded a strike a couple of months ago, said it was hopeful that the airline would come out of the current crisis. "We are very hopeful and would like to co-operate to revive the airline," ICPA general secretary Rishabh Kapur said.He said the Delhi High Court has withdrawn the contempt of court case against ICPA and "we too have apologised to the passengers for the inconvenience caused to them during the strike period".Maintaining that the ICPA would "like to begin on a clean slate", he said, "We are hopeful that all outstanding issues will be sorted out and Air India will be revived. The bad apples seem to have been shown the door, and that shows the management's positive intention".Meanwhile, the Travel Agents' Association of India (TAAI) have also sought a meeting with the new AI CMD.
