HC dismisses PIL for reconstitution of Lokpal committee

Madras High Court on Friday dismissed a PIL petition seeking to reconstitute the Joint Committee for drafting the Lokpal Bill as "a publicity oriented" litigation and imposed a cost of Rs 10,000 on the petitioner.

Madras High Court on Friday dismissed a PIL petition seeking to reconstitute the Joint Committee for drafting the Lokpal Bill as "a publicity oriented" litigation and imposed a cost of Rs 10,000 on the petitioner.


Petitioner KR Ramaswamy alias Traffic Ramaswamy had sought a direction to the Centre to take appropriate action on his April 21 representation seeking reconstitution of the panel.


A bench comprising Chief Justice MY Eqbal and Justice TS Sivagnanam, dismissing the PIL, pointed out that "Ramaswamy in his affidavit stated that he had sent the representation by fax but to our dismay, we find that it has been sent by one Stella and she has claimed herself to be the PA of Traffic
Ramaswamy."


Deprecating the manner in which, the petitioner had approached the court seeking for direction to dispose of the the representation, the Bench said:
