The Central Reserved Police Force has issued an advisory asking all the family members of troopers martyred in the Pulwama fidayeen attack to be wary of conmen.

The advisory came a day after the parents of a CRPF personnel killed in the February terror attack, were conned of Rs 1.5 lakh. Officers of the forces told the families of the three other martyrs hailing from Punjab region to be alert. They were asked not to entertain anyone who may try to strike a conversation revolving around the compensation to be provided for their kin attaining martyrdom.

Top officers of the CRPF in Jalandhar also met the parents of martyr Kulwinder Singh, who were duped last week, reported The Indian Express.

Elaborating on the advisory, CRPF (Jalandhar) DIG Darshan Lal Gola, said: “What happened with Kulwinder’s parents is alarming. We have informed family members of CRPF martyrs from Punjab region to be wary of misleading elements. Sub-inspector and ASI rank officers have been asked to stay in touch with the parents of all CRPF jawans from Punjab, who laid down their lives in the Pulwama terror attack."

"We have also requested the parents to get int ouch with these officers if they receive any call concerning compensation money. Our headquarters in Delhi have also been informed and a national-level advisory has also been issued to the family members of all CRPF men martyred in the February terror attack in Kashmir. Kulwinder Singh’s parents also met me today in office.”

The martyr’s parents Darshan Singh and Amarjeet Kaur were duped by a man posing as a CRPF personnel, in Ropar on Thursday. The fraudster told the elderly couple that the government would transfer a compensation of Rs 29 lakh after they withdrew all the money already deposited in their bank accounts. The conman had plans to withdraw about Rs 50 lakh via multiple cash vouchers, but his plans failed as the bank rejected these on grounds of code of conduct. Yet, later, the imposter managed to withdraw Rs 1.50 lakh.

The conman, who came to visit the parents of the martyr in a white Indica taxi he had hired from Ropar bus stand, is still at large. The conman robbed the family of more than the money -- a cell phone and Darshan’s motorcycle were nicked too, which was later found abandoned in Ropar.

Notably, of the 40 CRPF personnel martyred in the Pulwama terror attack, four were from Punjab.
