The Uttar Pradesh police have decided to collaborate with Gurgaon-based AI-startup Staqu Technologies and deploy Crime GPT, a Large Language Model (LLM) that functions on artificial intelligence (AI) and is designed to offer answers on criminals in a short time period and ease the process of tracking and detaining them, a Hindu Businessline report said.
Crime GPT is integrated with databases of crimes and criminals across different law-enforcement agencies in Uttar Pradesh and is given data on as many as nine lakh criminals who are registered in the state police records, which helps authorities fetch information quickly.
The AI-powered tool is developed within the servers of the UP police, which is trained on Staqu Technologies proprietary LLM and hosted in the state police's data centre.
"You can ask it for the background of the criminal, and the solution will map his complete antecedents by pulling all the relevant data," Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of Staqu Technologies Atul Rai said.
Crime GPT analyses all the digital data, in the background, that is pooled together from the CCTV feed that includes, audio, images and text which are stored in the files.
"We have witnessed a huge impact in the last few years after the implementation of the Trinetra project in parts of UP districts. Crime GPT will help in the faster retrieval of information. It will help to collate data across various law enforcement centres, helping in faster resolution," Director General of Police (DGP), Uttar Pradesh Police Prashant Kumar said.
After the implementation in Uttar Pradesh, Staqu Technologies said it had plans to speak with police authorities in other Indian states such as Punjab and Telangana to recreate the project.
