Ashneer Grover reacted to NR Narayana Murthy's views that India's youth must work  70 hours every week.

BharatPe co-founder Ashneer Grover said that he felt public may have been offended by Infosys founder NR Narayana Murthy's words, urging India's youth to work 70 hours every week.

Writing on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, Grover said that the general public may not have taken Murthy's comments too well as the measure of work done still gets notified based on the hours spent at a workplace rather than the eventual outcome. "I think junta got offended here because work is still being measured in 'hours' than 'outcome'. The other thing is people feeling as if youngster’s laziness is only thing keeping India from becoming developed," Grover wrote on Friday.

Grover also expressed amusement at how in India, getting offended sometimes took precedence over other subjects such as caste and cricket. "Funny - getting offended unites us more than cricket, religion, caste or language," he added.

Speaking in the opening episode of the 3one4 Capital’s podcast ‘The Record’, Murthy expressed concern about India's low work productivity and suggested that if the nation had to compete with global superpowers, then the youth must commit to working 70 hours every week.

Murthy's suggestion found backing from Ola CEO Bhavish Agarwal, who said that he "totally agreed" with his views.
