Influencers Anjali and Sufi break up before wedding. Here’s why

Social media influencers Sufi Malik and Anjali Chakra have called off their wedding. In a statement released on Instagram, Pakistani-origin Sufi Malik said she made the “unrecognisable mistake of betrayal by cheating” on Anjali a few weeks before their wedding.

Anjali Chakra and Sufi Malik are a US-based same-sex couple of Indian and Pakistani origin respectively. They rose to social media fame more than five years ago when their photoshoot went viral. In 2019, photos of Anjali and Sufi (real name Sundas Malik) posing under a rain-splattered umbrella in New York had taken the internet by storm.

The couple took to Instagram to share the news of their breakup one day ago. In separate statements, the two cited infidelity by Sufi as the reason for their split. “This may come as a shock, but our journey is shifting. We have decided to call off our wedding and end our relationship due to infidelity committed by Sufi,” Anjali said in her Instagram post, adding that she did wish for any negativity to be shown towards Sufi.

For her part, Sufi acknowledged her “mistake” as she wrote: “I have hurt the people I love and care about the most through my actions, including our family and friends; our community that I cherish.”

Sufi Malik is a New York-based travel and lifestyle content creator, while Anjali Chakra divides her time between New York and San Francisco for her wedding planning business.

Over the last few weeks, the couple had been sharing snippets of their wedding preparations, including trousseau shopping and the launch of their wedding website.
