The Samsung Galaxy S24 series is here and feature a robust suite of AI enabled functions that can help you with live translations, image editing and more. Here's everything Samsung announced at the event.
Galaxy AI
Like every technology company in the past one year, Samsung has bet big on Artificial Intelligence experiences powered by Google's Gemini AI model.
The S24 series are the first smartphones that feature Google's Gemini Pro and Imagen on Vertex AI. The partnership enables unique experiences such as real-time translation.
Processed completely on device, the Galaxy phones will be able to translate voice calls in real-time using Live Translate. Interpreter can help you communicate with other people using real-time text and voice translation, and presents itself in a split screen view for easier understanding.
Chat Assist can help you translate text messages or help you generate short, catchy captions for use on social media platforms. It can also summarize incoming messages, and can suggest replies based on context.
Note Assist helps you organize your notes by tidying up your handwriting using image recognition, or creating summaries and bullet points from notes in the app. It also supports cover creation.
Transcript Assist will help summarize your voice recordings and even translate them. It can also take down notes for you during a college session or a meeting.
Circle to Search is a collaboration with Google that allows you to circle, tap, scribe, highlight or draw over anything on the Galaxy S24 screen to immediately see search results for that object. Google says it only uses the area you circled for the search.
AI powered photography and editing tools
The Galaxy S24 series uses a ProVisual engine that uses the on-board NPU to power advanced photo capturing abilities.
On the Galaxy S24 Ultra, the engine helps stabilize your video and using the new quad camera module on the S24 camera, allows you up to 10x optical zoom. The module consists of a primary 200-megapixel wide-angle camera, 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, 10-megapixel telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom and a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.
The Galaxy S24 and the S24 Plus share the same triple camera module with a 50-megapixel primary wide camera, 12-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.
In conjunction with the ProVisual engine, these modules can offer advanced night time photography, and editing tools that enable users to erase, re-compose or balance colors in an image.
