Since the past year, foldable smartphones are becoming commonplace. Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi, Huawei, Tecno, and Motorola, among others, have all jumped aboard the foldable smartphone bandwagon with the launch of new devices between 2022 and 2023. Now, Realme is gearing up to hop on the foldable smartphone bandwagon as well.
Realme Vice President Madhav Sheth recently teased a foldable smartphone from the company. In a recent tweet, Sheth asked users what smartphone they would like to see next, the Realme Fold or Realme Flip.
What do you want next… #realmeFlip or #realmeFold?— Madhav Sheth (@MadhavSheth1) March 9, 2023
The first rumours of Realme’s foldable smartphone first popped up in 2021, with the device tipped to launch in 2022. However, it is safe to say that it never happened. Now, over a year on, Realme is finally gearing up to launch its first foldable smartphones later in 2023.
The move should not come as a surprise as Realme’s BBK siblings OnePlus and Vivo are also gearing up to launch clamshell foldable smartphones this year. Additionally, another BBK brand Oppo has already unveiled three foldable smartphones, including the clamshell folding Find N2 Flip. Moreover, Vivo has also launched a couple of horizontal folding smartphones last year.
So it won’t be surprising to see the Realme Flip and Realme Fold make their debut sometime soon. While there’s no confirmation if Realme will launch a clamshell or horizontal folding smartphone or both, we will provide more information as it becomes available in the coming weeks.
