Smartphone maker Oppo said on November 15 that it started rolling out updates to its 5G device portfolio to make them compatible with Reliance Jio's 5G network.
The Chinese company also said that all devices will support both standalone (SA) and non-standalone architecture (NSA), which means the devices can support both true 5G networks built that connect directly to 5G core networks and networks that use a layering of 4G connections to enable 5G.
Since the SA network has no dependency on 4G architecture, it has low-latency, supports Edge Computing, has support for 5G voice calls, network slicing and mchine-to-machine communications (M2M).
"OPPO India's dedicated efforts towards the development of 5G ecosystem in India will empower our users to experience True 5G. We are thankful to Jio for their contribution in supporting us on the same. Further, with this development, users living in any city with a 5G-enabled network can enjoy the experience," said Oppo's Tasleem Arif, VP and R&D Head, Oppo India.
All their upcoming 5G devices would be SA and NSA compatible, Arif said.
The company said it has already rolled out updates for Oppo Reno 8, Oppo Reno 8 Pro, Oppo Reno 7, Oppo F21 Pro 5G, Oppo F19 Pro+, Oppo K10 and Oppo A53s.
