Microsoft will equip 2 million people with artificial intelligence (AI) skills by 2025, chief executive officer Satya Nadella announced on February 7.

The training will be delivered in partnership with governments, nonprofit and corporate organisations, and communities.

Nadella is on a two-day visit to India, an annual ritual, with the theme for 2024 set as AI and opportunities arising out of it. He is expected to be in Bengaluru on February 8.

According to Microsoft’s recent Work Trend Index, 90 percent of Indian leaders say the people they hire will need new skills to prepare them for the growth of AI. Additionally, 78 percent of Indian workers say they don’t have the right AI capabilities to complete their current work.

The initiative will focus on training individuals in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, as well as rural areas.

Microsoft has partnered with Tata STRIVE to train students and connect them to job opportunities or internships. Tata STRIVE is the skill development initiative of Tata Trusts.
