Mumbai will be ahead of Bengaluru, Delhi and other cities in terms of mobility, Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra said.
“Mobility-wise Mumbai will be an entirely different city in the next five years. It will be ahead of every other city, it will be out of Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, and Chennai,” said Fadnavis, on February 19.
His statement comes following the inauguration of the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) or Atal Setu by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month. The sea bridge, touted to be India's longest, is considered to be a historic milestone in Mumbai’s infrastructure development.
While speaking at the Mumbai Tech Week organised by the Tech Entrepreneurs Association of Mumbai, the minister also said that the government dreams of developing mobility in a way that ensures anyone travelling in Mumbai can reach any destination within 59 minutes.
Fadnavis also launched the Mumbai Metropolis Metaverse which will offer an immersive virtual representation of Mumbai, showcasing ongoing infrastructure developments and envisioning the transformation of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) by 2025.
When asked if the government is working on targeting big tech companies and persuading them to set up shop in Maharashtra, Fadnavis said that they have been in active talks with all the technology giants.
The minister said that the state has already received the biggest data centre investment from Amazon and is partnering directly with Google to create a center of excellence in artificial intelligence.
“Many more investments in technology are coming in. There are two to three very big technology companies that are coming to Maharashtra,” he added.
