American chip-maker AMD has expanded its line-up of mobile and desktop processors with the Ryzen 8000G series and Ryzen 5000 series desktop CPUs. The Ryzen 8040 series is the newest addition to the mobile processor portfolio.

The Ryzen 8000G series desktop processors are built for the AM5 platform and the Zen 4 architecture. The series features CPUs with up to 8 cores and a turbo boost frequency of up to 5.1 GHz. Leading the line-up will be the 8-core Ryzen 7 8700G.

All 8000G series processors have built-in graphics courtesy of Radeon 700M, and feature AMDs Expo technology that can boost memory frequencies. These are also the first desktop processor to featuring a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) for accelerating AI tasks.

The Ryzen 5000 series is built on the Zen 3 platform, headlined by the Ryzen 7 5700X3D, which uses AMD's V-cache technology to embed 100MB of on-board chip memory. The CPU has 8-cores with a max turbo frequency up to 4.1 GHz.

The 8000G and 5000 series will be available from January 31, with systems from hardware partners expected to arrive in the second quarter of 2024.

Besides new CPUs, AMD said laptops powered by its recently launched Ryzen 8040 series mobile CPUs will be arriving soon from partners including Asus, Lenovo, HP and Razer.
