Diageo group firm United Spirits Ltd is undertaking a 'detailed review' of each case of fund diversions and improper transactions worth Rs 1,225.3 crore involving entities linked to its embattled ex-Chairman Vijay Mallya, including Kingfisher Airlines and his Formula One team, to assess its legal position to recover them.
The agency had recently expanded the probe in this regard as it took over investigation into the alleged loan default of Rs 6,027 crore availed from a consortium of nationalised banks led by SBI, a case also taken over by CBI recently. The fresh action is an aftermath of the new case.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18 Amrit Kiran Singh, Chief Advisor for USL & Diageo, said alcohol is the second largest contributor to a state‘s revenue.
The company, which had got shareholders' approval in September 2014 for remuneration of the two top executives, said in a regulatory filing it has approached the government to reconsider the decision and approve its proposal.

Though Mallya will chair the AGM in all probability, it is learnt that Diageo is evaluating its contractual obligation with him.

United Spirits (USL) has decided to completely sell its existing holding in United Breweries (UBL). Heineken International, which already holds 38.85% in UBL, is slated to be the buyer. With 8.5 million shares, USL held 3.21% in UBL. However, post sale, USL would completely exit UBL, says ICICIdirect.com
The company has received a notice from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs for an inspection... of the books of accounts and other books of the company, USL said in a filing to BSE.
Facing a multi-agency scrutiny, Diageo-owned United Spirits may have to restate its financial accounts, even as some investor groups have begun to question the UK-based parent's long silence on allegations against the erstwhile main promoters, Vijay Mallya-led UB Group.
While SEBI is already looking into the matter, sources said the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) has now written to the capital markets regulator seeking the details.
