"There has been a phenomenal 584 per cent increase (0.3 to 4.5 million) in transactions made through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) since demonetisation. In the same period, payments using Adhaar have also seen an unprecedented jump of 1352 per cent (0.7 to 2.7 million)," a NITI Aayog press release said.
Over 7.6 lakh consumers and merchants won prize money worth Rs 117.4 crore under two incentive schemes -- Lucky Grahak Yojana and DigiDhan Vyapar Yojana -- as on February 7, 2017, NITI Aayog said today.
Making his last monthly address this year in his Mann ki Baat programme, he said there is "an atmosphere of curiosity" in the country as to what is cashless, how cashless business can take place and how one can make purchases without using cash.
Announcing 'Lucky Grahak Yojana' and 'Digi Dhan Vyapar Yojana', Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said both the schemes will cover small transactions between Rs 50 and Rs 3,000 to encourage every section of the society to move to digital payments.
In addition to daily and weekly awards, on April 14, 2017 a mega draw will be held offering three prizes of Rs 1 crore, Rs 50 lakh and Rs 25 lakh for the consumers under the ‘Lucky Grahak Yojana‘ and Rs 50 lakh, 25 lakh and Rs 5 lakh for merchants under the ‘Digi Dhan Vyapari Yojana.‘
