The DDA has repeatedly raised the issue of ”shortage” of land for greening activities in the national capital. The forest department said it has conducted a detailed analysis of the land available for plantation in the Yamuna floodplains, considering the Centre’s project to rejuvenate 13 major rivers, including the Yamuna, through forestry intervention.
Compensatory afforestation can also be carried out on degraded land, twice in extent of the forest area diverted, in case of the projects implemented by the Centre or PSUs.
Earlier, DDA on November 24 approved the launch of a special housing scheme for approximately 15,000 flats of different categories at various locations such as Dwarka, Narela, Rohini, Jasola, said DDA officials.
Officials of the DDA, Delhi Police and other departments concerned were advised to proactively facilitate approvals and clearances as required for timely implementation of the project, Anil Baijal said.
The proposed project at Karkardooma is "conceptualised to be a new transit-oriented development that imbibes the core values of a sustainable 'Smart City'", the minutes of the 65th meeting of the EAC held on May 27-28 read.
Apart from the metro and railway stations, the revised policy will also enable node-based transit-oriented development around upcoming modes of public transit like BRTS/LRT/Metro Lite/Metro-Neo, thus making TOD policy of Delhi future-ready, it said.
With the direction, the bench disposed of the PIL initiated by the court on its own after taking cognisance of two social media videos showing alleged illegal encroachments in that area.
