Both Orbimed and CDC Group have an extensive healthcare portfolio in India. They invested in AIMS in 2014 and 2018, respectively.
The firm received funding from existing and new investors, including Chiratae Ventures, CDC group, Jungle Ventures, March Capital, Marshall Wace and some of the large family offices from India and abroad.
Bigbasket had raised USD 300 million in February last year from Alibaba and others. In November, it had said it was looking at raising fresh funds of up to USD 200 million.
Ayana was launched to develop utility scale solar and wind generation projects across growth states in India. It is currently constructing 500 megawatt of solar generation capacity with a strong future pipeline of renewable energy opportunities, the statement said.
The money will be used primarily to finance capex, long-term working capital and support the growth of the business.
This investment makes a second coming for the UK government-owned development finance institution as the CDC Group was the first private equity investor in the IIFL Group in the late 1990s.
Reacting to the news Nirmal Jain, Chairman of IIFL, said that the non-banking finance arm constitutes 70 percent of the business. "The NBFC is a wholly-owned subsidiary where the focus in on home loans," Jain said, adding that it is also targeting affordable housing.
The big question is whether the IDBI strategic stake sale would be to one entity or whether the government would opt for a wide-holding.
According to early data from Venture Intelligence, a research service focused on private company financials, transactions and their valuations, the investment in the said quarter registered a year-on-year jump, but declined on a quarter-on-quarter basis.
